Lady Sings the Blues (2020)
American Jazz singer, Billie Holiday, recorded her most famous works between 1935 and 1942. With the most unique voice of her time, Lady Day is still considered one of the most wonderful blues singers of her time. Unfortunately, a lifetime of addiction caused her to die at the age of 44—to top it all off her abusive husband, Louis McKay, had unceremoniously swindled her out of all of her earnings, and at the time of her death, she only had $0.70 (equalling $6.75 by 2022’s inflation standards) in the bank.
To me, Billie Holiday was an artistic inspiration—not only was she a beautiful woman, but she also possessed an insanely exquisite voice. No voice, before or since, has ever come close to hers.
