Escaping the Well (2022)
Sadako Yamamura hit the horror scene in Koji Suzuki’s Ring (1991); the character of Sadako is loosely based on the life of Sadako Takahashi, a self-proclaimed clairvoyant woman from Japan. Most widely known for her appearance in Ringu (1998) and then the American remake, The Ring (2002) as Samara Morgan. She has become the poster child for the creepy girl in white, a vengeful ghost who possesses the power of nensha—the ability to burn images onto surfaces and into the minds of others. The most distinctive way she targets her victims was likely a more powerful weapon when VHS tapes were still widely used; the cursed tapes she creates cause the viewer to die exactly one week later unless the tape is copied and shown to another person and the curse continues on down the line.
