Jeffrey Dahmer: Trying to Understand a Killer

There are a lot of people that are interested in learning about serial killers, perhaps because they’re interested in the demented psychological aspect of it, perhaps because they adore the macabre, others still are interested in the criminal aspect and trying to understand how or why killers do what they do. To be honest, I’m one of those people–my own interests lie somewhere between the educational and the macabre; I’m simply fascinated by how a child who, much like Jeffrey Dahmer, seems to go from having a typical dysfunctional family life and childhood to cannibalism and necrophilia. Trust me when I say I take no personal joy in these types of stories, so much as I want to see how these people come into existence in the first place.

Poisson d’avril: The French April Fool’s Day

Many people look forward to the first of April, it gives them a chance to play pranks and joke around with people they otherwise wouldn’t. This year during the global pandemic that has ravaged our global community and economy, people are being told not to play pranks today. As a general theory, I don’t understand why–aren’t difficult times the exact time for humor and fun? Well, yes and no, because everyone needs a way to lighten the mood, but the spirit of this fun can be taken too far and enter the spectrum of mean spiritedness.

When to Cast… and When Not to

When it comes to casting spells, there can sometimes be confusion as to whether or not it is the appropriate course of action. Of course, there is a spell for everything, from quitting smoking, to landing that great job that you really want–but when is it appropriate to incorporate magic into your life and when is it simply overkill? To be honest, it takes a practiced hand to figure out that magic is not always the best course of action for an everyday problem, but an important part of being a witch is knowing when it is and when it isn’t appropriate to cast a spell for something that may or may not deeply affect your life.

Blood Magic: What is it really?

Blood Magic–the very utterance is something that may bring to mind sacrificial rites that showcase most occult-themed horror movies, where there are either animal sacrifices, virgin sacrifices, or some type of deadly deal with the devil or cut-throat demons. Typically, the story ends badly for everyone, evil triumphing over good and ruining the good night’s […]

Magic or Fantasy?

There is what seems like a fine line between real witchcraft and fantasy witchcraft–for example, the difference between Harry Potter and real witchcraft… which many beginners may not realize, is not so much of a fine line, but a huge break in reality. Sometimes newcomers are not aware that magic doesn’t manifest in such fantastic visual forms–it can and will manifest in the most mundane ways possible. So much so, that at times it doesn’t seem like anything has happened at all, because when we ask for the universe to manifest certain things in our lives they come about in ways that we question whether or not it is just coincidence. In the reality of magic, it can sometimes seem like things aren’t happening at all and therefore causes disbelief.

So You Want to Be a Witch?

Coming out to the world as a Pagan or a Witch is often the most anxiety-inducing part about having an alternative path in life. Why Moose’d I Be Careful?

When you live in Alaska, a lot of people have preconceived notions of what your life must be like–I suppose like any well-known region, they believe what they see about it on television, or they assume things based on widely distributed ideas or misinterpreted facts. I feel it’s incredibly important to try and get these facts right, so maybe I have a chance to straighten things up one post at a time. Moose (Alces alces), as they are known in North America–they’re called Elk in Europe–are the largest member of the deer family. They’re even bigger in the Alaskan and Yukon regions, ranging from 800 lbs. (small adult female) to 1,600 lbs. (large adult male) and reaching nearly six feet in height. Suffice it to say, these animals although beautiful and majestic are not something that you want to run into in the middle of the night on your way to the outhouse.
